The technical issues here have become a huge problem.

I just lost a second game within a few days because the site had technical problems. When I would move, it would move the piece on the screen, but it would still say "your turn" and my timer continued ticking down. Refreshing the browser didn't help.

The game I just played where this happened it was an equal position, but the first game I was winning when it happened, after refreshing the browser and it not helping, I tried closing and restarting my browser, only to return to the game and find my opponent who was losing had forced my resignation for "leaving the game".

Because of this, I've been playing on Chess.com for the past few days. I would rather play at Lichess than Chess.com because I usually like to be black and I think the rating system there is inflated. (for instance, I just beat a 1460 player at Chess.com who played like a 1100's Lichess player. )

However, given the technical issues here at Lichess, never knowing when there's going to be server issue disrupting games, there seems to be no other option but Chess.com.

Another plus is it seems like there are less cheaters at Chess.com. They seem to have ways of automatically detecting it that Lichess doesn't, for instance after one of my games there a message box popped up saying "we think your opponent may have violated our fair play policy, his account has been flagged for review"
Just to make sure I understood... You are complaining of a site where you play for free, without advertisements, that offers computer analysis, statistics, ELO history, and that has been stable for ages, because you lost a couple of games? Nice.

By the way, I was curious about the supposed 'automatically detector' of chess.com, and went there to cheat a little bit. Just won 30 games in a row using houdini, with 5 seconds per move. I'll soon be a GM there.
And just to make sure I understand you just admitted to cheating in online chess. Looks like you need a ban, if you're so cavalier about cheating at chess.com you've probably done it here too.

Lichess has been my favorite chess site. I've defended it on the chess.com forums and encouraged everyone I know who plays chess to visit this site. I made this post so that the people running lichess get the message and hopefully fix it because the technical problems have made this site unusable. It's not been "stable for ages" in my experience, this has been an ongoing issue for me using Lichess, and that's why I'm having to switch to chess.com. I just spent all night playing games at chess.com when I would rather have been playing here at lichess, and I'm sure others have been driven away because of the instability here as well.
thanks for the bug report. I indeed see issues in the server logs. I'm working on it.
rats running away from the ship.... so here will stay only strongest players soon who never betray this site.
The connection issues are out of control.
I never seem to get a decent , consistent and sustained connection to lichess.

Often I would have made a move, only to find that after 20-30 odd seconds the screen would refresh to show
1. Its my turn
2. My timer has reduced by 20-30 sec.

Ugh
Fix this otherwise you'll lose players by load.
That happens to me all the time too pseudoknight, so much so that I just got used to refreshing my browser if my opponent was taking long just to make sure. And it happened to the people I played against as well, in this game I played four days ago

It was my opponents move in a 30 minute game, he is taking forever and his clock is now at 3 minutes. Of course I have refreshed my browser several times to make sure it's still his move. All of a sudden he asks me "are you still there?" and I'm like, "it's your move man, refresh your browser" Then I offered him a draw even though computer analysis showed I had a 1 point advantage when that happened to him, but I didn't want to win unfairly on time so we made a draw.

I love the lichess site, I've had a lot of fun here, and learned how to play chess here. But it's just this one thing they need to get fixed. That Thrain guy commented above "lichess has been stable for ages"..um, not for me. I've seen that time out screen with the girl playing the robot more times than I can count. Often in the middle of games.
